The Veggie Wagon, located in Carolina Beach, NC has started making their version of Bread & Butter Pickles. These small batch pickles are made with Wilmingon honey and have no other added sugars. The Veggie Wagon’s Honey Bread & Butter pickles came about because they have had a lot of customers asking for a bread and butter pickle, so we tried making a few jars, the traditional Southern Way. We found the amount of white sugar per jar was obscene and we knew that in our good conscious that we could not produce them in the traditional way. We looked at other options such as sugar in the raw & brown¬† sugar, but we still knew that neither of those were good options. We already use a lot of local, Wilmington honey in a variety of our products, so that was our next logical thought. We made a couple of jars, both sweet and spicy and did some taste testing. Consistently,¬† the honey pickles won out over the traditional sugar based pickles.
We here at The Veggie Wagon can guarantee that you have never had bread & butter pickle quite like ours! They are sweet, crispy, and smell deliciously of honey as soon as you open the jar. Next time you find yourself passing by, Pleasure Island, stop by the shop and grab a jar for yourself! These pickles are available in both a spicy and non-spicy option.
